The worst planes in the game are usually low CST with poor SP weapon choice that aren't Attackers.Notably, the J35J is a commonly cited one on this page and it's true: it's slow, it doesn't handle well, and its SP weapons suck because it's both a Multirole and has low base CST. The SAAMs are its best weapon, and it can't carry enough of them to be worthwhile, and lacking a damage bonus (it's not a Fighter) and with the low base CST of the Draken, it'll do subpar damage even for a decent weapon.

HVAAs and RKTLs are decent weapons, but you need a much higher base CST to make either viable, and HVAAs desperately need Fighter damage bonus. Ironically, none of these weapons are truly bad on higher tier planes, but on the Draken you see them at their worst.

Others will cite the F-4E and F-5E as pretty bad too, but at least the Phantom has better SP weapons (the HPAA is king at low tier Air-to-Air, and though the LAGM is weak it's idiot-proof, and UGBs on either the Phantom or the Tiger can still be decent because none of your targets dodge) and the F-5E is relatively mobile and fast for its tier. The tree F-16C is the worst Fighter in the game too. Don't bother investing in it other than for tree progression. It's slow, it's not mobile, and generally refuses to perform like how an actual F-16 would.

Worse yet, it has terrible SP weapon choice: 4AAMs require intense investment to be even half decent, HCAAs are weak in damage so you'll need to double every time (but they're otherwise fine), and QAAMs are a shadow of what they were in previous AC games and the F-16's low base CST makes them not terribly viable in damage even with a Fighter bonus. Better bottom tier fighters are the MiG-21bis (HPAAs, half-decent SAAMs, and MGP which can be used for strafing targets, which is a rarity for a Fighter), and the F-20 Tigershark (has SAAMs and HPAAs as well). Those are both decent planes if you level them, but seriously, avoid sinking investment in the F-16 beyond progressing the tree. For that matter, the stock F-14A/D isn't worth your time either, keep your Fishbed or Tigershark until you get an F-15 or a decent Flanker variant. As for Attackers, their role is so straightforward and most of them have idiot-proof weapons early on that if things go your way, you can deal a lot of damage to ground targets. The worst attacker is probably the Su-25, if only because its speed is very poor even when upgraded and people will simply beat you to the targets. The AV-8 suffers from similar problems until very high level, but a good Harrier pilot can still wreak havoc once their plane is upgraded enough.Avoid Bombers like the plague except if you really need a part locked behind them. None of the bombers are worth their cost.

They're Awesome, but Impractical. Most of the time they're just Impractical. But note, these are the stock versions of the planes. Some of the special versions of these planes are actually good.

Note that the F-16C -Windhover- is a very good plane, and Sly already mentioned the J35J -Cipher- as being great too. Undoubtedly the F-16C. Poor performance, low damage, poor SPW choice and no slots requiring insane commitment to make it even remotely viable.

At least the Mig21 has serviceable HPAAs.None of the multiroles are as bad in comparison. Their damage isn't too far behind their low tier fighter counter-parts but they can also pack a decent punch against ground. J35J is probably the worst due to its relatively poor performance in comparison to F-4/F-5 even at near max levels and the worst SPW.Either that or the Block1. It has ECM which is nice but I'm not quite sure how potent it is with TLS compared to the other laserbirds. At least it has a decent ammo count for it by L20.Worst attacker is Su-25. Horrendously slow, terrible handling and poor SPW requiring you to be up close, which you can't do because you're too slow.

While it may be the worst, it's really not that bad as attackers have great damage scaling so it can still rain havoc. Well of course they will! They can go a hell of a lot faster than a piston can! Your initial point was that Pistons can't be used properly on many maps.I then say that Pistons are viable on the majority of maps in the game and even excel on some maps (Pipeline, Paris, Moscow and B7R). Of all of them only Weapons Base is iffy due to how spaced out all the targets are.I've always wanted people to give Pistons a shot on standard maps instead of boring old Retro Combat although many don't tend to give it a try as they think they'll do terrible on them. I show in many of my videos that it's indeed possible to do well with a piston pretty much anywhere!.

In this Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Best Aircrafts Guide, we will show you what the best type of plane you can use depending on the situation or mission that it requires. First we will divide the basic groups of planes in the game, then we will detail the best plane you can choose for all the three roles, whether they are fighter, multi-role or attacker planes

Ace combat 7: Skies Unknown has just released this week, giving players the chance to get in the air to battle enemy on the ground and in the air. The game comes with a myriad of real world aircrafts from the air forces of many different countries that you can choose from.

Below we will list the three basic groups in which the aircrafts are divided in the game. then we will highlight what is the best aircraft that you should choose depending on the requirement of the mission.

Aircraft Types

In Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, there are basically three different group types of aircrafts. These three groups can also be differentiated with the different color they have. The three basic group are:

  • Fighter Aircraft (Blue)
  • Attacker Aircraft (Red)
  • Multi-role Aircraft (Pink)

Fighter planes are fast and highly maneuverable in the game. they require the fast movement to dodge an incoming attack, and to keep the pressure up in a dogfight with an enemy. This comes at a cost that they are light weight and that they are only good for aerial combat and destroying enemy planes in the air (though they can sometime attack ground targets).

Attacker planes are slower than the other two groups of aircrafts, but are well armored and can carry specialized missiles with them. They are best for ground attack as their missiles are standard and only destroy objects on the ground.

Multi-Role aircrafts sit right in the middle of the other two groups. They offer a little of what Attacker planes offer, and some of what the Fighter Planes offer. These aircrafts have the option of choosing additional weaponry if you have to target ground based objects as well.

Aircraft Statistics

Every aircraft in the game has its specifications detailed in the game. there are basically 6 categories that define an aircraft:

  • Defense
  • Mobility
  • Speed
  • Air to ground
  • Air to air

Aircraft Upgrades

There are several options you have in the game that allows you to fill empty slots to further increase a specific performance of the aircraft. The parts that you can put on the aircraft are Body, Arms and Misc.

Airplanes come with a limited slot numbers that allow you to put you choice of object on your aircraft. Before you go out on a mission, it is best to understand what you are getting into, and what item can help you survive the battle, or have the upper hand over the enemy.

There are fuselage parts that improve maneuverability and speed of your aircraft, the arsenal affects the range and effectiveness of your weapon and missiles, while other attribute like stealth reduces the chances of your plane to get into enemy radar.

Best Fighter Planes

When you first start with Ace Combat 7, its best to take the plane that gives you the most with what you can purchase. Generally, the more expensive the aircraft, the better features and abilities it has for you.

Before you waste all the money on an expensive one, we suggest going for a reasonable purchase and paying attention to the special weapon of each machine. The best fighter planes you can have are the F-16C and the Mig-29.

Both these planes not only have proven in the real-world by being the best in this category, but they also follow suit in the game. A third option you can choose is the Eurofighter Typhon which has the capability to destroy as many as 8 ground targets at the same time. In combat, its best to have weaponry that can target multiple targets at the same time to achieve the best results.

Best Attacker Planes

There are not so many attacker type aircrafts in the game. nonetheless, the best attacker planes at your disposal are the Su-34 and the A-10. These aircrafts are best to carry specialized weapons for missions that require you to target a large area, or multiple cluster of targets on the ground.

Attacker planes are not so good with speed and maneuverability that may be a problem if you have enemy aircrafts incoming.

Best Multi-role Planes

The best multi-role planes that you can get from the rest, are the F-35C or if you are low on money to buy parts, you can choose the Swedish Gripen E.

The F-35C has a special weapon that can destroy 4 enemies aircrafts in the air, and 8 targets on the ground at the same time. All this comes with great performance, but at the cost of buying many parts.

This is where you can go for the Swedish Gripen E that offers long-range Cruise missiles or the ability to attack four enemy planes at once.
